Education
Most IT jobs require either a degree or a diploma in computer science or information systems. Higher rank DBA jobs would also require professional certifications. If you’ve worked in computer support, data analysts or other IT related jobs, you can choose to go for formal online education in database programming and development.
Skills
Of course, you will need database skills. If not, I recommend you start by learning the SQL programming language, the programming language where queries are written with. Or, enroll in a single course or online certificate in the database.
Character Traits
Being a good DBA, you need to have good troubleshooting skills. You have to be a calm and have the ability to find the problems and fix it. You also have to be willing to learn and grow. Be always eager to learn. Spend some time learning and improving yourself. The IT industry is constantly growing and new products are produced at a very fast pace. So you will also need to keep up with the growth. Employers want the people who are continuing to advance themselves.
Patience
It will take some time to reach the position of a senior DBA. So you’ll need some patience and humility. The beginning of your DBA career would be about learning, deciding where you want to go and doing a lot of basic tasks. These task helps to prove yourself, your discipline. Gradually, more tasks will be given and more responsibility will be granted.
