IoTalent’s very own freelancer Dean Loh was recently featured in a short segment on Mediacorp’s Mandarin-language Channel 8 News. The segment was about the assistance opportunities that NTUC has provided over the past two years to freelancers.
NTUC has been a staunch supporter and advocate for the freelancing movement in Singapore, with the Freelancing & Self-Employed Unit (FSE) created to provide representation and support to the 200,000 strong freelancing workforce in Singapore.
The FSE provides assistance to freelancers and advocates for the income security, insurance and good industry practices for buyers and hirers of freelances services. It also conducts regular events targeted at educating freelancers about their line of work.
IoTalents is proud to be an advocate for the freelance economy in Singapore. Hence, we have worked with NTUC to help educate and support freelancers whenever possible.
Meet Dean Loh
Dean is an 18-year veteran in the tech industry, with valuable experience as a web designer, developer and entrepreneur.
He has project management (PM) experience and last held a PM role in a Fortune 500 company, before taking the fruitful leap to be a freelancer.
Here is the excerpt from Channel 8 News’ website on Dean (translated from Mandarin):
“Dean Loh, 43, originally worked as a web designer at a company. In order to spend more time with his family, he decided 11 years ago to abandon the fixed salary and become a freelance worker.
In August this year, he took part in the general curriculum learning project management to better handle his business at work.
‘If you ask me what I need most help today is if we have a group who can help us or maybe we can learn from the course and get a deep understanding of what a contract needs and what to do with it,’ said Dean.”
