Mental barriers and myths dream job

One of the paradoxical laws of nature dictates that you have to do the opposite of what you instinctively want to do in order to get the result you desire. Most of us are “programmed” to simply work harder when we want something really badly (like our dream job).

But, when everything goes south, you get frustrated and lose hope. You feel that doing everything you can to achieve your goal is beyond reach and you just can’t seem to make it happen.

What you believe in is very important as it can change your actions.

Many gave up on their dream career simply because they believed they could not make it. Instead, they deceived themselves that what they are doing is going to work. But it won’t. The solution to this problem is simple: identify it and let it go. It sounds simple. But in reality, it is harder that it sounds. Being aware of your beliefs is often the most difficult part.

Here are 3 myths that are blocking you from your dream job, and how to solve them:

Myth #1: I Can’t Do It.

Lack of confidence and belief in ourselves is the most dangerous and toxic sickness to the body and mind. Every single person, including myself, suffers from it and it literally ruins our lives and holds the world back. What are some beliefs that hold you back?

Thinking that you needed more education, more experience before you could succeed at what you really wanted? You have to stop giving into that fear and do something about it. You need to just start. Start somewhere, anywhere. The sooner you start, the sooner you arrive at where you desire.

The good news is, more and more companies like Google are announcing that they don’t even look at grades anymore. They care about who you are and the value you can add to their company.

Myth #2: I’ll Never Find My “Dream Job”.

There are three kinds of groups that people are classified in the world:

The 1st group looks at the mountain of their expectations of what their dream job should be and gives up because it’s so big and terrifying that they say “Too big. Can’t do it”.

The 2nd group climbs half the mountain and finds a nice little lake with a cosy cabin waiting there for them. So set camp there, build a fire, and settle in with no regard on how nasty the weather gets and forgets about what’s waiting at the top.

The 3rd group climbs the mountain, sees that there’s a range of more mountains in front of them, and immediately exhibit excitement and crave for more adventure.

Many think about their Dream Job as a once in a lifetime occurrence that they were born to do. It’s not true. You have to make the choice now and be part of that 3rd group on your journey to find your dream job. As the saying goes: it truly is about the journey, not the destination.

Myth #3: Traditional Job Seeking Strategies Still Work.

If you want to get the attention of a company and get your dream job, you have to do something different. Here are some statistics: only 1% of traditional resumes lead to a job offer. And 70% or more of people are bored out of their minds at work. That is miserable and clearly shows the old school approach won’t work. Einstein once said: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. You can’t keep following the outdated job seeking approaches you were taught because they won’t work.
