Last Thursday, on the 7th of June, UpGrad and IoTalents held our first joint workshop since establishing a partnership last month. IoTalents has been UpGrad’s strategic recruitment partner in Singapore and has been working closely with UpGrad’s students to review their profiles for career transitions into the digital marketing industry.
A big highlight of any of our workshops are the networking opportunities for attendees. This event was no exception. We had sumptuous food and ample dining space at the ready to encourage attendees to get to know each other. Who knows, the next big idea might be just round the corner!
The regular open workshops hosted by UpGrad and IoTalents act as way of engaging the community and for the public to gain knowledge that could be useful in their work. In the long term, we hope to build a strong community across our network of learners.
As part of the workshop, Kevin Dam, who is the Director of Marketing at AeMorph shared his knowledge with attendees on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and more specifically, “How to Get to the Front Page of Google”. AeMorph is a digital marketing consultancy that helps its clients achieve supremacy on the web through curated marketing strategies.
In addition to learning industry terms and the importance of website structure, backlinks and On-Page, Off-Page SEO, participants were also treated to quick SEO hacks such as guest post contributions and where and how to use and plant keywords on websites. Kevin also used real-life case examples from his own clients to showcase what these SEO tips and tricks could achieve when properly implemented.
“In this event, I learnt what SEO is about. For someone who is totally new to SEO, Kevin made the content easy to comprehend. For example, I leant how exactly to build a website with high quality backlinks. An amazing talk!” said Joe, a Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Undergrad.
“Kevin delivered and summarized the event topic in a nutshell. Useful good practices were also shared which were largely beneficial to the audience. It was a well-run event by the dynamic teams at UpGrad and IoTalents. Looking forward to the new wave of education and recruitment and more exciting workshops!” added Daphne, a Global Business Consultant.
All in all, it was a fruitful night of learning for everyone involved. SEO will always be of strong importance for anyone who does business, from fresh start-ups to enterprising freelancers. After alI, the front page of Google is where most web traffic comes from!
